100% of proceeds will go towards the new conservation initiative in Guyana, South America: "Save the Giants." Save the Giants is a community driven conservation effort, which aims to employ local rangers to patrol and survey the interior river systems of Guyana. The mission of the project is to protect and preserve the wide variety of species which call the pristine environments of Guyana home and to combat the devastating effects of the illegal wildlife trade. Our focal species, the giant otter, is an umbrella species; our patrols will survey the giant otter populations and in doing so, will ensure that all of the cohabiting animals are also under the same "umbrella" of safety.
Save the Giants is a continuation and expansion of the already occurring giant otter surveys, which are taking place on a monthly basis in the North Rupununi district. Our team will use the same survey methodology to expand the otter survey throughout the region. This is a collaborative effort, supported by the non-profits Creature Conserve and The Global Conservation Corps and with correspondence from the IUCN Otter Specialist Group and other notable experts in the field. Please stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new conservation initiative!
